Organic Gardening Tidbits

Organic gardening means that you need to know a
whole range of tips and tricks so that you can have a
successful garden. When you have the knowledge,
the tips, and the patience to garden naturally you~ve
got a recipe for success. You~ll find yourself with a
beautiful flower garden and baskets of fresh
vegetables with no more effort or time that you
would invest in a garden that isn~t taken care of
organically.
One important step to having those thriving flowers
and vegetables is to make sure that you mulch
around the plants. You can buy mulch or you can
make your own. Making your own means that
you~ll know exactly what goes into the mulch,
ensuring that it is as organic as possible. Mulching
has three purposes: it helps the soil to remain wet, it
adds nutrients that plants need to grow, and it keeps
weeks at bay. And if you have some plants that
require an acid based mulch you can provide this
naturally as well by adding pine needles to your
home-made mulch. Pine needles have a high
concentration of acid which will leach into your
mulch.
If you~re going to garden organically you~ll have to
make sure that any fertilizers that you buy are
natural and organic. You~ll be able to find organic
fertilizers in plant and gardening stores as well as
other organic supplements that you may want to add
to the soil.
You may want to use birds as one way to keep the
insects and bugs away from your plants. There are
many birds that eat insects and bugs, and this means
less pests to eat your plants. Make sure that you
find out which birds you want to encourage, since
some birds are considered pests themselves, such as
the sparrow which will each your lettuce, parsley,
and radishes.
No matter what type of climate you~re gardening in
you~ll have to find some way to fight against bugs
and other pests that are out to eat your plants. There
are many ways that you can get rid of these insects
without the use of harsh chemicals. For example, if
you have a lot of aphids in your garden you~ll want
to use a solution that is made of water and soap to
spray on the buds, stems, and leaves of plants.
Don~t forget to spray the soap solution into the dirt
around the plant stem so that you can deter aphids
from returning to the plant.
You can find many books on organic gardening to
give you more hints and tips about how to keep
your garden growing and flourishing. You~ll soon
enjoy eating organic vegetables and having a flower
garden that is totally free of chemicals.
